Short-Term Accommodation Licence Applications are Open!
Share Short-Term Accommodation Licence Applications are Open! on Facebook Share Short-Term Accommodation Licence Applications are Open! on Twitter Share Short-Term Accommodation Licence Applications are Open! on Linkedin Email Short-Term Accommodation Licence Applications are Open! linkAt a Special Council Meeting earlier this year, Burlington City Council approved the City’s new Short-Term Accommodation By-law which takes effect on May 1, 2025.
The key change introduced by this by-law is that operators of short-term accommodations are now required to obtain a licence to operate. If you own a property and rent it out for up to 28 consecutive days (for a total of up to 183 days per year) for a fee - such as through Airbnb or VRBO - the new by-law applies to you, and you must get a licence to operate.
The by-law is designed to address housing availability, safety and common nuisances such as noise, parking issues and garbage. Owners will be required to submit certificates showing that the HVAC and electrical systems meet requirements prior to a licence being issued. Owners will also have to sign a declaration to comply with the maintenance and parking plans, Building Code and Fire Code.

New Rideshare and Taxi Service Survey!
Share New Rideshare and Taxi Service Survey! on Facebook Share New Rideshare and Taxi Service Survey! on Twitter Share New Rideshare and Taxi Service Survey! on Linkedin Email New Rideshare and Taxi Service Survey! linkThe City of Burlington is reviewing its Public Vehicles Bylaw (20-2009) and wants to hear from you. Since the bylaw was last updated, the introduction and expansion of rideshare services such as UBER, LYFT, Scoot, and Hopp have changed the way residents and visitors travel within the city. Both services play an important role in helping you get to where you want to go. The City invites you to share your experiences with rideshare services, taxis, vehicles for hire (limousines) and accessible taxicabs. This feedback will help us update our bylaw to ensure it reflects industry changes and meets the changing needs of the Burlington community.
The collected information will help Burlington City Council and City staff determine how to adjust rideshare licensing and regulations to make these services more accessible, safe, and reliable for everyone.
A report and draft by-law will be presented to Council in fall 2025.

Pet Boarding Engagement
Share Pet Boarding Engagement on Facebook Share Pet Boarding Engagement on Twitter Share Pet Boarding Engagement on Linkedin Email Pet Boarding Engagement linkIn March, the City gathered feedback on pet boarding services in Burlington to assess their usage within the community. Pet boarding allows owners to leave their pets, including dogs, cats, and other animals, in the care of a boarding facility or pet sitter while they are away. The input will help us better understand how these services are utilized locally.
The feedback collected will help inform Council’s discussions on whether pet boarding should be licensed in Burlington and what types of regulations, if any, may be beneficial to the community. The input will contribute to future decision-making but does not determine any specific outcomes at this stage.
