Our By-law Compliance team provides a range of services, including municipal law enforcement, licensing, animal control, and parking enforcement. Our officers work to educate and support residents while ensuring compliance with local regulations. From time to time, the City updates by-laws to reflect the community’s evolving needs. The City of Burlington is reviewing its Noise and Nuisance Control By-law to better understand how construction noise and other impacts affect residents and neighbourhoods.
Currently, the bylaw permits the use of construction equipment between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and prohibits construction on Sundays and statutory holidays unless prior approval is granted.
In the City’s by-law, construction equipment is defined as:
“Any equipment or device designed and intended for use in construction, or material handling, including but not limited to, air compressors, pile drivers, pneumatic or hydraulic tools, bulldozers, tractors, excavators, trenchers, cranes, derricks, loaders, scrapers, pavers, generators, off highway haulers or trucks, ditchers, compactors and rollers, pumps, concrete mixers, graders, or other material handling equipment.”
While the by-law regulates certain construction-related noise and impacts, it does not cover construction vehicle backup beeping, honking, workers shouting or communicating on-site, or traffic delays related to construction.

M.56. Personal information will be used to inform of the diverse backgrounds of survey participants and ensure inclusive representation. Your personal information is confidential and survey responses will only be reported in a de-identified, aggregate manner. They may be included in a corporate dashboard or Council report to highlight the range of perspectives gathered.
