Construction Noise and Impact Survey
The City of Burlington is reviewing its Noise and Nuisance Control By-law to better understand how construction noise and other impacts affect residents and neighbourhoods.
Currently, the bylaw permits the use of construction equipment between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and prohibits construction on Sundays and statutory holidays unless prior approval is granted.
In the City’s by-law, construction equipment is defined as:
“Any equipment or device designed and intended for use in construction, or material handling, including but not limited to, air compressors, pile drivers, pneumatic or hydraulic tools, bulldozers, tractors, excavators, trenchers, cranes, derricks, loaders, scrapers, pavers, generators, off highway haulers or trucks, ditchers, compactors and rollers, pumps, concrete mixers, graders, or other material handling equipment.”
While the by-law regulates certain construction-related noise and impacts, it does not cover construction vehicle backup beeping, honking, workers shouting or communicating on-site, or traffic delays related to construction.
Your feedback will help the City better understand residents' experiences with construction-related noise and neighbourhood impacts, and inform potential updates to the City's Noise and Nuisance Control By-law.
