The City of Burlington is seeking community input on the draft Urban Forest Master Plan(UFMP). The Urban Forest Master Plan replaces the City's Urban Forest Management Plancreated in 2010. The development of the UFMP involves two phases of public engagement. The first phase of engagement took place in June of 2022. The community input helped form the vision and strategic directions of the draft Urban Forest Master Plan.
The second phase of engagement launches on May 23, 2023, to collect feedback on the draft Plan. Visit this page between May 23 to June 30 to provide your input through the second phase of engagement. Please subscribe to this project page to stay up-to-date.

Burlington’s urban forest includes all trees, forests, plants, soils, and ecosystem components located within the city. Many types of trees make up the urban forest, including City street trees, park trees, and trees in natural woodlands as well as the trees on private land in urban and rural landscapes. Burlington’s trees are an important asset to the City and our community because of the many environmental, social, and economical services they provide.
Urban Forest Master Plan
The Urban Forest Master Plan is being developed over five stages and is planned for completion over the summer of 2023. Previously, the project team completed an assessment of the current state of Burlington’s urban forest and conducted a first round of community engagement to inform the vision and strategic direction of the Master Plan. The results of first project stages are summarized in the City’s 2022 State of the Urban Forest Report and Engagement Summary.
With the Urban Forest Master Plan now drafted, we are now kicking off a second round of engagement to collect feedback on the draft Plan
Woodland Management Strategy
Burlington is also in the process of developing its first Woodland Management Strategy to provide standards and guidelines for the management of City woodlands. Forest management plans will also be developed for woodlands greater than one hectare in area. More information about the Woodland Management Strategy and associated engagement opportunities are available through the Woodland Management Strategy project page.
