Burlingtonians are Generous and Compassionate
Burlington is a wonderful place to call home! There is a great sense of community and generosity here. An outstanding example for me was being involved with others in our church in settling four families of refugees from war-torn countries.
Each of these families had experienced a variety of very very difficult situations, including being chased by ISIS forces.
As we awaited their arrival, seniors, children, everyone seemed to want to be involved, even including friends and neighbours of our team-members. They enthusiastically gathered furnishings for the apartment, they gave to the fund-raising campaign, they offered to drive until the families could get their own cars. People with expertise in banking, in education, in ESL, people who could provide translation, who could accompany to interviews - so many came together to volunteer their time and resources! Those involved actually felt that they were watching God at work in amazing ways, as impossible details came together! It was health-giving! Joy-giving!
Now, just a few years later, each of these families is self-sufficient and the children are doing amazingly well in school. They are giving back to the community as proud and grateful residents of Burlington.
Now they too say, “Burlington is a wonderful place to call home!”
