Central Park Cricket Pitch Update

The Central Park cricket pitch improvements are nearing completion. Staff anticipate reopening in mid-October, after Thanksgiving, weather and turf conditions permitting. The field will remain closed until the new sod is established and staff confirm it is ready.

From reopening through Nov. 1, cricket will be allowed only by permit and only during the following times:

  • Wednesday and Friday: 5 to 8 p.m.

  • Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • No permitted play on holidays.

Based on typical turf management practices and seasonal weather, field permits are generally not issued after Thanksgiving each year. However, this year, staff will extend the permit season for cricket play at Central through Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. During this period, By-law staff will educate players, request proof of permits and address play that does not comply with these temporary requirements.

Starting Monday, Nov. 2, casual cricket play without a permit will be allowed during regular park hours, provided the field is open. This is consistent with other parks and sports. With the colder weather, reduced daylight, leaves, rain and potentially snow, the likelihood of continued play should decrease significantly.

By-law will continue to address violations involving amplified sound or play outside regular park hours. Sounds associated with play, such as cheering, bat-on-ball contact and conversations, are not considered violations.

Staff will announce the reopening through updated park signage and City communications. The field may close again if weather or turf conditions require it.

Please direct enforcement concerns to By-law at 905-335-7777 rather than approaching players.

We are pleased to share that the Council Information Package Report is now available for review.
