What are some of the things the City is exploring as part of its regulation of short-term rentals?

The City is exploring regulations such as:

    • Ownership requirements
    • Frequency of inspections
    • Length of stay
    • Types of properties allowed to be a short-term-rental
    •  Number of guests, and more.

Is the City deciding if a short-term rental licensing program is needed?

Burlington City Council has already approved for staff to move forward in the development and implementation of a city-wide Short-Term Rental Compliance/Licensing Program.

The City is seeking feedback to better understand residents experiences with short-term rentals so it can best shape the program to suit the needs of the Burlington community.

How does the City currently oversee short-term rentals in Burlington?

Currently, there are no regulations specific to short-term rentals in Burlington. Short-term rental properties are held to the same by-laws that regulate the rest of the community. That includes by-laws related to property standards, exterior maintenance (such as lawns, gardens, waste), noise and parking. The short-term rental licence will strengthen the City's ability to ensure these regulations are met.
