The City of Burlington is reviewing and updating the Recreation Facility Space Allocation Policy that guides how recreation and sport facilities are allocated and used. The project will also develop new policies related to affiliate groups and the exclusive use of amenities such as storage space, meeting rooms, and other recreation facility spaces. The goal is to create a fair, transparent, and sustainable framework that meets the needs of Burlington's growing community.

As Burlington grows, demand for recreation facilities continues to increase. The City wants to ensure its policies reflect current community needs, support equitable access to recreation opportunities, and provide clear and consistent guidance for how recreation spaces are allocated and managed.

No, facility development is out of scope for this project. Any new facility construction is driven by the City’s Live and Play Plan. The Live and Play Plan is the City’s long-term infrastructure strategic document for parks, recreation and cultural facilities. It helps identify current and future needs across the city, including service levels, trends, demand for sports fields, community facilities, and recreation spaces which identifies the need to support a range of recreational activities as Burlington continues to grow and community needs change.  

Survey results will help the project team better understand community experiences, priorities, and concerns related to recreation and sport facility access. Feedback will be reviewed alongside interested party input, facility data, and research into leading practices from other municipalities to help inform future policy recommendations.
